Remove the factory u-bolts.
Use a jack to support the rear differential. Remove the four factory u-bolts that hold it to the leaf springs. Then lower the differential until the axle separates from the leaf springs, but use care not to over-extend the brake lines. This will remove all pressure from the leaf springs and allow them to be easily disassembled.
